Chelsea's History in the UEFA Champions League

Chelsea Football Club has a long and successful history in the UEFA Champions League, having competed in the competition since the 2003/04 season. The Blues have reached the final on three occasions, winning the trophy twice, and have been a regular presence in the knockout stages of the competition.

Chelsea's First Champions League Campaign

Chelsea first qualified for the Champions League in 2003/04, after finishing second in the Premier League the previous season. The Blues were drawn in a group with Lazio, Sparta Prague and Besiktas, and finished top of the group with 13 points. In the knockout stages, Chelsea defeated VfB Stuttgart, Arsenal and Monaco to reach the semi-finals, where they were defeated by eventual winners FC Porto.

Chelsea's Second Champions League Title

In 2007/08, Chelsea qualified for the Champions League for the fifth consecutive season, and were drawn in a group with Roma, Bordeaux and CFR Cluj. The Blues finished top of the group with 15 points, and went on to defeat Juventus, Liverpool and Barcelona in the knockout stages to reach the final. In the final, Chelsea defeated Bayern Munich on penalties to win their second Champions League title.

Chelsea's Recent Champions League Campaigns

Since then, Chelsea have been a regular presence in the knockout stages of the Champions League, reaching the semi-finals in 2009/10, 2011/12 and 2014/15, and the quarter-finals in 2010/11, 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2015/16. The Blues have also reached the round of 16 on four occasions, in 2008/09, 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19.

In total, Chelsea have competed in the Champions League on 13 occasions, reaching the final on three occasions and winning the trophy twice.
